YOUR SABOTEUR & SAGE

Mental fitness reflects your ability to deal with mental stress. It’s a lot like physical fitness: the stronger you are, the more ups and downs you can handle. Mental fitness grows by exercising a positive mindset (Sage) and notably declines with a negative mindset (Saboteur).

Saboteurs are negative narratives that influence how you react to challenges. They’re responsible for your feelings of stress, anxiety, self-doubt, frustration, regret, shame, guilt, and unhappiness. Your Sage handles the tough stuff in positive ways that lead to feelings of curiosity, empathy, creativity, calm, and clear-headed, laser-focused action.

If you think you fall into the Saboteur camp, don’t worry. You’re not alone. The wonderful news is that my 6-week Mental Fitness Program will help to authentically engage your Sage and dial down your Saboteur—for good.

STrengthening your sage

One of the best ways to build your Sage is through a series of short mindfulness exercises called PQ Reps.

In the same way reps with weights build muscle, PQ Reps build mental strength and resilience.

PQ Reps are quick and easy to fit into your schedule. As part of the program, you will be encouraged to do a few a day to weaken your Saboteur and elevate your Sage.

backed by research

Mental fitness is measured using the Positive Intelligence Quotient, or PQ. It was developed through discoveries in neuroscience, cognitive and positive psychology, and performance science.

The research included:

- Hundreds of CEOs

- Sales, operations and technology teams

- Stanford students

- Elite athletes

- 500,000 participants from 50 countries

- Many YPO families and forums

Shirzad Chamine’s New York Times Bestselling book, Positive Intelligence®, summarizes this research well. It details many important findings, but the top two are:

1. Your Saboteur uses a different part of the brain from your Sage .

2. You can cause a shift in brain activity that boosts your Sage and weakens your Saboteur.

That’s what my Mental Fitness Program is all about.
